DOT and FAA Eye Examinations

Essential for Safety

If you’re a commercial driver or pilot, regular DOT or FAA eye exams are crucial to ensure your safety and compliance with regulations. Our experienced eye care professionals provide comprehensive examinations to meet the specific requirements of these industries.

Why DOT and FAA Eye Exams Matter

DOT (Department of Transportation) and FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) regulations mandate regular eye exams for commercial drivers and pilots. These exams help identify potential vision problems that could compromise safety on the road or in the air.

What to Expect During a DOT or FAA Eye Exam

Our DOT and FAA eye exams are designed to assess your visual function and determine your eligibility to continue driving or flying. The exams typically include:

  • Visual acuity testing: Evaluation of your near and far vision.
  • Field of vision testing: Assessment of your peripheral vision.
  • Color vision testing: Evaluation of your ability to distinguish colors.
  • Glare sensitivity testing: Assessment of your sensitivity to bright light.
  • Eye health evaluation: Examination of the structures of your eyes, including the retina, optic nerve, and lens.

Department of Transportation

For DOT examinations we have the proper equipment to run a 120 point visual field test and can provide copies with interpretation for the DOT as well as get your forms filled out, signed, and sent to the proper places to make sure you get your documentation taken care of in a timely fashion.

We are often able to bill the examination itself through your vision or medical insurance, however unless there is a medical diagnosis that would require a visual field, most of the time insurance will not cover the visual field for DOT examination.

Your employer may offer to reimburse you for the cost of your testing since it is part of your licensure. We can provide you with copies of receipts for submitting to your employer if necessary.

Federal Aviation Administration

If you are a pilot with a previous history of an eye condition that requires a medical waiver, we are more than happy to assist you with filling out your forms. When scheduling your appointment, please let our staff know ahead of time that you plan to bring in your FAA forms for the doctor to fill out and sign, this way we can try to plan for any additional required testing for your appointment.

Your examination and testing is likely able to be billed through your medical insurance in most cases.

If you would like an estimate in terms of costs prior to your visit, please feel free to call or text our staff anytime!
